UCLA Kidney Cancer Program's
Educational Opportunities

The UCLA Kidney Cancer Program has created educational symposia for patients, families, and health care workers, both regionally and nationally. The Program Directors have been noted leaders at Kidney cancer conferences at ASCO, ONS, and the AUA. Our faculty and nursing staff are invited to speak at national and international conferences about kidney cancer, the basic clinical and translational research opportunities, and the successful current management of this patient population.

The UCLA Kidney Cancer Program has been conducting physician (i.e.: medical oncology, urologic oncology) and industry preceptorships for over ten years. These preceptorships are typically one and one-half days in length with didactic lectures on biology, current staging systems, surgical aspects including the role of nephrectomy in metastatic disease, the role of cytokines in the management of disease, active clinical trials at UCLA, nursing and pharmaceutical aspects of the management of RCC, and participation in the half day multidisciplinary kidney cancer clinic, case conference and tumor board. In 2003 this effort was expanded specifically for urologic oncologists with the addition of specific preceptorships for newer surgical techniques in RCC that include minimally invasive surgery.

A web-based Kidney Cancer education/information site for the American Urological Association has recently been completed.
